I AM
There was this great youtube video I was watching one night (it was one of those deep dive, iceberg ones) about different things from the Bible. I’m a pretty spiritual person and there was one story that was really beautiful to me.
In the bible it is known that there was a true name for God that would never be spoken because very few knew it. In the early scriptures, the substitute word they used for God was “Yahweh”; It can translate to, ‘I am’ or ‘to be’. After Jesus finished his last supper with his disciples, he went to the garden knowing that Judas had betrayed him, and that he would be taken by the Romans any minute. The Romans arrived and Jesus met them and asked, “who is it that you’re looking for?” The romans replied, “Jesus of Nazareth”. And in many modern translations, Jesus says “I am he” but in the old translations, he spoke the true name of God. The earth rumbled, the guards fell to their knees and again he spoke the true name of God. I am.
In today’s world, we have so much expected of us and so many systems that don’t treat us all fairly. It’s really easy to lose yourself in that. I guess I liked the story because it felt like the truest form of fighting for yourself and how that faith can be all we need sometimes. and when i’m lost, now, I say, “I am”.
